Shimadzu Foundation Memorial Hall (島津創業記念資料館)
Shimadzu Foundation Memorial Hall is a museum of Shimazu family history, opened by Shimadzu Corporation in 1975 on the centennial anniversary of its foundationto commemorate its founder Genzo SHIMAZU. It consists of the south building (built in 1888) and the north building (built in 1894), which together were the Shimazus's home and the laboratory when the company was founded, and both are preserved now. Both buildings are designated as Registered Tangible Cultural Properties (registered in December 1999).
It displays not only writings and instruments, but exhibits panels related to Koichi TANAKA, a Nobel Award winner, as well.
