Minamoto no Genshi (源厳子)

MINAMOTO no Genshi (Takeko) (year of birth unknown - July 23, 879) was Nyogo (a high-ranking lady in the court - a consort of an emperor) of Emperor Seiwa. She was an imperial descendant of Emperor Montoku, and her father was Udaijin (Minister of the Right) MINAMOTO no Yoshiari. Her mother was FUJIWARA no Shigeko (there is the assumption that her mother was the daughter of FUJIWARA no Mototsune, details of which are unknown). She was called Unmeiden no nyogo.

On February 2, 872, she obtained kudoku (merit) by painting Birushanabutsu (Vairocana-Buddha) at the celebration of 60th birthday of Naishi no tsukasa (female palace attendant) MINAMOTO no Matahime (writings made for Genshi by SUGAWARA no Michizane are left in "Kanke Bunso" (a collection of Chinese poetry created by Sugawara no Michizane)). In March 879, kika geppo (salary) was stopped by an imperial order of the Retired Emperor Seiwa. In June of the same year, she passed away in Jushiinoge (Junior Fourth Rank, Lower Grade) without a government post.
