Hogi (法義)

Hogi (years of birth and death unknown) was a priest in the Nara period.

Career

On November 3, 739, with three doji (child acolytes of Buddhism), he departed for Heijo-kyo (the ancient capital of Japan in current Nara) from Dazai-fu (local government office in Kyushu region). In 749, he lived in Kumede-ji Temple, and later became a disciple of Gyoki. It is said that in March, 773, he was selected to be one of the ten masters of Zen.
