Sugawara no Takami (菅原高視)

SUGAWARA no Takami (876 - 913) was an government official of the early Heian period. He was the first son of SUGAWARA no Michizane. His son was SUGAWARA no Fumitoki.

He became Monjo-tokugosho (Distinguished Scholar of Letters) in 893 and the following year was appointed Kokushi (Governor) of Mikawa Province. Having been promoted to Daigaku no kami (Director of the Bureau of Education) and concurrently Ushoben (Minor Controller of the Right), he was involved in the Shotai Incident and demoted to Kokushi of Tosa Province in 901. Five years later he came back to Kyoto, returning to the position of Daigaku no kami and reaching Jugoinojo (Junior Fifth Rank, Upper Grade), but then went through a period of mediocrity until his death at the young age of thirty-eight.
